The City University of New York’s central administration conducted a review of the BMCC that same year and found that student scores had been inflated to the point where they were essentially meaningless. In the same year, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new BMCC building was held. However, due to the New York City financial crisis of 1975, construction was suspended the following year. In 1977, BMCC President Edgar D. Draper was fired for improperly persuading an Association of Colleges evaluation panel to revise its report to appear more favorable to university administration. By 1980, BMCC’s nursing certification exam pass rate had improved significantly, and BMCC no longer ran a financial deficit. BMCC’s new campus building opened in January 1983. In 1993, Miles and Shirley Fiterman donated a 15-story building at 30 West Broadway to BMCC; The building was subsequently named Fetterman Hall in their honor.
